Sylvan SAT/ACT Prep
Better Test Prep, Better Test Scores

With Sylvan SAT/PSAT/ACT Prep - Scores go up! Students report score increases of 160, to as high as 550 points, and every year we receive emails, messages and testimonial letters from students and parents sharing success stories. Here are some of our recent favorites:

Hey Lois,

I wanted to check in with you about my SAT scores...1600! That's 200 points higher than the first time! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I'm probably going to stop in for a huge hug!

Marlena

Becky,

Bailey's mom called and is thrilled. She got 690,650 and 640 on her SAT and a 26 on the ACT. She went up 250 points. They are already receiving money offers from universities. She said the Advanced Reading Skills really helped.

Good Job!

Lois,

I really would like the opprtunity to sit for a few minutes and describe the diffeerence Sylvan made in our lives. It's what the ads strive to do - but as with any family, we looked askance at the promise. You delivered!

Daughter's score went up 200 points!

Lois,

I've been meaning to write to you about my daughter, Katie.  She was accepted early decision to all five schools she applied to:  Endicott College, URI, Salve Regina, Florida Southern College, and Northeastern.  She has received considerable scholarship offers to three of them.  I can't thank you enough at for all the help.  She wouldn't have had this success without her tutoring and ACT prep at Sylvan.  She loved her time there and she came away feeling like a success.

Pat

Lois,

I want to thank you and Becky for your professional help which enabled Scott to focus on his weaknesses as identified in the Sylvan program. I don't know how Scott stacks up with other students, but his scores have now put him in a position to feel comfortable and confident when applying the colleges of his choice.

Benefits of Sylvan Prep

Students who dream of attending a highly selective college should take the SAT and/or ACT. Besides good transcripts and letters of recommendation, entrance exams are an important part of the admission process. For a high school graduate to be competitive:

  • SAT scores in the high 600's are a requirement.
  • ACT scores in the high 20's or 30's are a requirement.
  • Both tests are accepted by most colleges.  Since the student will do well on one or the other, both should be taken.
The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) found that strategies courses for standardized admission tests can yield positive gains. In fact, more and more students are opting to take one of each test rather than repeating the same test over again to try and improve their score.

Not just for admissions...

High SAT/ACT scores are not only necessary to get into the college of your choice but are a requirement for merit awards.  A score of 1800 or better on the PSAT is required to put the student in the running for National Merit Scholarships.  Colleges and Universites also offer merit awards.  These awards are renewable each of the 4 years and can be quite substantial.  Raising test scores could result in a savings of $20,000 - 40,000 a year.
