What is Effective Reading Rate and how is it calculated?

This program does not strictly concentrate on increasing speed. "Effective Reading" means that you are able to comprehend what you read. Advanced Reading Skills focuses on being able to read quickly while consciously comprehending the material being read.
The course begins by testing the participant's speed and comprehension. We measure the Effective Rate by taking the reading speed (in words per minute) and multiplying it by the score percentage obtained on the comprehension test. Students will use this method to measure progress throughout the program.
Example:
Reading Rate = 175 W.P.M.
Comprehension = 72%
175 x .72 = 126
Effective Rate = 126 W.P.M.
